Understanding Kingdom Relationships
Theme Verse: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
i) What is a Kingdom Relationship?
A relationship that is Christ-centered, purpose-driven, and glorifies God. It aligns with the principles of God’s kingdom—love, truth, holiness, service, and unity.
ii) Why Kingdom Relationships Matter
We were created for fellowship (Genesis 2:18, Ecclesiastes 4:9–12). Relationships shape destiny and reflect God’s nature (John 13:34–35)
iii) Characteristics of Kingdom Relationships
1. Christ is the Foundation:
1 Corinthians 3:11 – No other foundation but Christ. Every relationship must be rooted in faith, not flesh.
2. Purpose-Driven Connection:
Relationships should push each person toward God’s purpose. Example: Jonathan and David (1 Samuel 18:1–4)
3. Love and Sacrifice:
John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this… Genuine love is sacrificial, not self-seeking.
4. Accountability and Growth:
Proverbs 27:17 – Iron sharpens iron. Kingdom relationships challenge and encourage growth.
5. Forgiveness and Grace:
Colossians 3:13 – Bear with one another and forgive… No relationship thrives without grace.
iii. Types of Kingdom Relationships
1. Friendship
Godly friends are destiny helpers. (Example: Ruth and Naomi – Ruth 1:16–17)
2. Marriage
Reflects Christ and the Church (Ephesians 5:22–33) Covenant, not convenience.
3. Mentorship and Discipleship
Paul and Timothy (2 Timothy 2:2). Invest in others spiritually.
4. Fellowship within the Church
Acts 2:42–47 – Community, breaking of bread, prayers. The kingdom grows through connection.
iv) Dangers of Ungodly Relationships
a. Unequal Yokes (2 Corinthians 6:14).
b. Toxic or manipulative ties (1 Corinthians 15:33)
c. Distractions from purpose (Judges 16:4–21 – Samson and Delilah)
v) Building and Maintaining Kingdom Relationships
- Pray Before You Connect – Proverbs 3:5–6
- Choose Purpose Over Popularity. Not every good person is a God-person for you.
- Establish Boundaries, Respect, Purity, Time.
- Communicate in Love, Ephesians 4:15 – Speak the truth in love.
- Stay Connected to the Vine (Jesus) – John 15:5 – Without Him, we can do nothing.
Conclusion: Reflect the Kingdom in Your Relationships
Let your relationships reveal God’s heart and character. Whether in friendship, marriage, mentorship, or fellowship, commit to building Kingdom Relationships that glorify God and advance His purposes.
Altar Call/Closing Prayer:
